The Squiggla mark making programme is an accessible, process-led visual inquiry that can be flexibly incorporated into your classroom! Centred around our four key themes, a Squiggla Professional Development workshop introduces Squiggla’s free flow mark making process along with some favourite activities, tools and tips to keep ākonga engaged, as well as educator-developed session guides that provide loads of ways to use Squiggla across the curriculum. Workshops are delivered by our experienced Squiggla educators, and are suitable for participants with any level of creative experience.

Our hands-on classroom workshops are an excellent way to ignite creative thinking in your class and begin the Squiggla journey. By playing, inventing and improvising with free flow marks, Squiggla encourages ākonga to think outside the box, test new ideas, collaborate with others, and share in the joy of making. Delivered by experienced Squiggla educators, workshops are tailored to your needs - whether you want to incorporate Squiggla’s mark making programme as a mindfulness exercise, to link with subjects like dance and music, or to interpret maths and science in new sensory-rich ways. It’s all possible with Squiggla!

With its genesis deeply embedded in the visual arts, Squiggla presents a full programme of creative activity for public art gallery spaces. From Making Space to Workshops, these projects are developed in conjunction with exhibition and education programming. The programme can assist to develop new ways of looking at artworks on display in the gallery itself. They are designed to welcome all gallery visitors to exercise their creative muscles and have some fun exploring a variety of visual thinking and mark making techniques that encourage everyone to get creative. Squiggla has developed projects in New Zealand at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, Christchurch Art Gallery, Te Atamira, Queenstown, Tauranga Art Gallery, Te Uru and Mairangi Arts Centre. Squiggla Workplace Workshops focus on balancing workplace routines with joyful, non-judgemental creativity in the work day. By creating connections to the world through awareness of the senses, the tactile, spatial, temporal and visual, we can enhance creative expressions through hands on exercises which are more ‘mind gym’ than ‘art’. Mind wandering, divergent thinking and spontaneous actions bring you to ask ‘what if?’ and inspire innovations in both work and life.
