Join Squiggla at our Onehunga headquarters for a workshop exploring creative mark making through the vocabulary of music: scale, tone, harmony, pattern, improvisation, and play.
Taking inspiration from the abstract artworks of Wassily Kandinsky, Natalya Goncharova, and New Zealand’s own Len Lye, we'll consider how marks relate to images in much the same way that sound relates to music: not just something that represents an image, but a distinct material with its own rhythm, energy, feeling, and meaning, expressing ideas beyond the scope of words.
Through guided activities, participants will experiment with different mark making tools and discover the surprising results that emerge when we open ourselves to multi-sensory mark making.
Materials and light refreshments provided.
This workshop is suitable for adults and children 12 years and over. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult.
This is a relaxed, beginner-friendly workshop, with activities that can be adapted to suit a range of abilities and access needs. Please note that the workshop space is accessed by stairs and is not accessible by lift. If you have any questions about accessibility or specific access requirements, feel free to get in touch.
